Olivier Award nyertes lett a Top Hat jelmeztervezője
I was lucky enough to see Top Hat, the musical, a few months ago in London. I’ve always been a fan of Irving Berlin’s music and Art Deco. I didn’t know the original movie but the musical is so much so the film’s embellished counterpart that I managed to land myself in a funny situation because of the similarities between the two.
In the interval, my partner and I searched YouTube for videos of the 1935 Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers film on my phone. As we were watching it, the usher came up to us and told us in no uncertain terms that we had to delete all recordings of the musical immediately. Laughing, we showed him that we were looking at the original version. Truth be told, the musical really is just like the movie.
A jelmezek káprázatosak voltak. A luxus, amit a korszak árasztott egyszerűen lüktetett a színpadról. Semmi spórolás, semmi megalkuvás. A zenék pedig elvarázsolták a közönséget, akár fiatalabbak, akár idősebbek voltak. Nekem mégis az előttem ülő család dédimamája tetszett, aki a zene ritmusára végig izegte mozogta az egész előadást.
A Top Hat musical mai napja igen szépen bearanyozódott. Három kategóriában kapták ugyanis meg az Olivier Award-ot, ami 1976 óta a londoni színházi világ legnagyobb kitűntetése. Díjazták a legjobb díszletért, jelmezért és koreográfiáért. A jelmezeket Jon Morrel tervezte, akinek ezúton is gratulálunk!
The costumes were magnificent. The feel of luxury emenated by this era was simply oozing from the stage. They’ve pulled out all the stops. No compromise. The music charmed the audience, whether they were young or old. One of the things I remember is the family who were sitting in front of us, and the great-granny who was bobbing up and down to the rhythm all throughout the show.
Top Hat struck gold today as they snatched up three Olivier Awards (the most prestigious award in the London theatre scene, and has been presented every year since 1976). Apart from the Best Costume Design, Top Hat also won the award for Best Set Design and Best Coreography. The costumes were designed by Jon Morrel. Congratulations!
And do not miss the show if you are in London!
No one is going to question the Top Hat team’s sense of humour, once they had a chance to look at the video below, in which they squeeze all the Oliver Award nominees into a Lady Gaga song.
